According to the President, “over 300,000 Ukrainian warriors went through the crucible of war against Russia”

Over 300,000 Ukrainian soldiers received a status of participants in military activities in the Donbas conflict, over 16,700 servicemen received national awards, and 45 received the title of the Hero of Ukraine. The information was given by President Petro Poroshenko during the ceremony of awarding Ukrainian soldiers, broadcasted by 112.UA Channel.

“Over 300,000 Ukrainian warriors went through the crucible of war, and justly received the status of participants in military activities, as the defenders of Ukraine against the aggression of Russia, and as immediate participants in the military activities,” the President said.

According to Poroshenko, over 16,700 servicemen received national awards.

“Grievously, 2,700 of them – posthumously.  45 Ukrainian warriors received the Hero of Ukraine title, 27 of them – posthumously,” the President said.

The Defender of Ukraine day is celebrated on October 14, which is a public holiday in Ukraine. Today’s ceremony is a part of commemorating the heroes who gave their lives for the Independence of Ukraine.
