During the meeting, Pope Francis and the Apostolic nuncio Gugerotti discussed the current church and political situation in Ukraine, according to the agency.
The pontiff showed great interest and asked Archbishop Claudio to convey the wishes for restoration of peace and economic growth to the new president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
As for the church situation in Ukraine, Pope Francis expressed regret about the suspension of the dialogue between Moscow and Constantinople patriarchs.
As it was reported earlier, in May, Pope Francis invited the leaders of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church for a meeting concerning the current situation in Ukraine.
In the delicate and complex situation in which Ukraine finds itself, the Holy Father Francis has decided to invite to Rome, July 5 to 6, 2019, the Major Archbishop, the members of the permanent Synod and the Metropolitans of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.
