Police detained a group of far-right from Kyiv on suspicion of preparing provocations in Odesa on February 26, as the advisor of the Head of National Police Regional Department Ruslan Forostnyak reported.
“At the time, when the President is in Odesa with an official delegation led by the U.S. Ambassador in Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, the U.S. Special Representative on Ukraine Kurt Volker, other officials, and USS Donald Cook in harbor station, there were people who decided to start some provocations. Now, the investigators should define who exactly and for what reason sent a group of guys, to Odesa, who were paid and who were noticed in some other regions, where they carried out some provocations, imitating protests of the pro-radical forces under the flag of some “Traditions and order,” Forostnyak wrote.
According to him, the detention occurred near entering Odesa region: “the guests” from Kyiv were ambushed by the police.
According to Bellingcat, Traditions and Order is a far-right violent organization connected by Human Rights Watch to attacks on Ukrainian Roma, LGBT persons, and LGBT rights activists. Some of their members identify themselves as “national-socialists,” and show a penchant for posing – non-ironically – with Nazi salutes.
Six months ago, they were spotted in getting ‘Special-Ops Like’ training from an elite European security firm. "At least one recipient of ESA training is reported to be an active member of an ultra-nationalist group known as Tradition and Order and has openly admitted online to supporting a Nazi ideology," The Daily Beast reports.
