Police detain suspect in murder of ex-Ukrainian army volunteer Oleshko

The suspect has been hiding from prosecution in different regions of the country for five months

Police detained ex-fighter of "Tornado" riot police with a certification of Europol member. He is suspected of organizing the murder of public activist Vitaliy Oleshko (nickname Sarmat) in Berdyansk, Zaporizhia region, as Deputy Head of National Police Vyacheslav Abroskin wrote on Facebook.

“We have detained this pseudo-Europol police officer, ex-Tornado fighter, Dnipro resident, whom we suspect of organizing supervision and murder of Vitaliy Oleshko, during today's search operations in Lviv,” he wrote.

The suspect was hiding from prosecution in different regions of the country.

Vitaliy Oleshko was killed with the gunshot in Berdyansk in summer this year. He was known as the social activist who persistently fought corruption.

Oleshko was shot dead in the yard of a local hotel, in front of his wife. Andriy Madzharov, who later uploaded a video on his social media account confirmed that the man sustained two wounds to his back; the killer used a shotgun.

The shooter who killed Vitaliy 'Sarmat' Oleshko is the former fighter of Tornado volunteer battalion. The convict, formerly the sniper of the unit, might face the life imprisonment for this particular crime.
