Kremlin believes that it is early to talk about the holding of Normandy Format meeting until the end of 2019 as TASS reported, citing Spokesperson of Russian President Dmitry Peskov.
“We are closely following the situation. Any report that the disengagement of forces is disrupted raises deep concern. We hope that despite the difficulties, the process will be finished, finalized,” he said.
Answering the question of how the disruption of the disengagement of forces will influence the holding of Normandy Format summit, Peskov underlined that Russia would like to hold the meeting as soon as possible but it is too early to talk about the terms.
“The position of Russia on Normandy Format is unchanged and consistent. Russia and President Vladimir Putin stand for the continuation of work in Normandy Format. We want to hold the summit as soon as possible but at the same time we think that this summit should be prepared well for provision of the proper effectiveness,” he said.
Answering the question of whether it is possible to hold the summit until the end of the year, Peskov said: “It is prematurely to tell because there are still a lot of issues in agenda”.
Earlier Volodymyr Kravchenko, Commander of Ukrainian Joint Forces Operation, said that the troops disengagement in Petrovske may happen on November 8th. It could happen only if the shelling is stopped.
The latest shelling of Ukrainian positions near Petrovske was recorded on October 29 and 30. Thus, only after 7 days, in case of compliance with the ceasefire, it will be possible to carry out the withdrawal of troops, - stated the head of Ukrainian part of Joint Control and Coordination Center Oleksandr Borschevsky. Only after 7 days, without shelling, the withdrawal of troops may be done.
Besides, the US Embassy in Ukraine praised the efforts of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and his team to ensure the disengagement of forces and equipment in the settlement of Zolote on the demarcation line in Donbas.
However, the US Embassy reminded the Russian Federation of the necessity to fully implement the Minsk agreements and called on Moscow to withdraw all its forces from eastern Ukraine.
