President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky considers the passportization of residents of the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions to be the first step towards the annexation of territories. Zelensky stated this during a press conference dedicated to the second anniversary of his election.
"This is definitely the first step, as the same thing happened once in the Crimea. Crimean people were given Russian passports. This is a big problem," Zelensky said.
As for the beginning of May, almost 600,000 Ukrainian citizens had received Russian passports, including local government officials, teachers, and doctors.
In Crimea, the occupants forced teachers, other school staff and members of their families to register for "training for All-Russian online voting in the elections to the State Duma of Russia." Teachers are required to confirm the facts of registration with screenshots. If this procedure is not followed, the occupant authorities threatens them with dismissal.
