The Committee of Verkhovna Rada on National Security and Defense will initiate the allocation of additional funds for the "European Wall" construction project on the controlled parts of the border. This was reported by Ivan Vinnyk, the committee’s secretary, in a commentary to Interfax-Ukraine.

"We will initiate the allocation of additional $19.2 million. This money is in the state budget. These are the funds, confiscated from Yanukovych and his entourage," Vinnyk said.

He stressed that less than 20% was actually given out of $154.6 million funds envisaged for the project.

According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, over $23 million was spent on the European Wall until 2016 inclusive. 7.7$ million was allocated for 2017, while only 1.15$ million was received.

273.5 km of anti-vehicle ditches, almost 170 km of lateral roads and more than 83 km of a metal fence, video monitoring and alarm systems, etc. have been constructed in terms of Russia–Ukraine barrier currently.

"The amount of works done since realization of project is great, but it is still just 14% of the planned project, as lack of financing does not allow to complete the wall," the press service of State Border Guard Service announced.
