Parliament fails voting for Ukraine’s accession to EPAS

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has rejected the draft law #0205 on the accession of Ukraine to the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS), as 112 Ukraine broadcasted.

According to the explanatory note, it is expected that the participation of Ukraine at the EPAS will give a chance for the exchange of the experience with the European countries in different issues of the physical education and sport, take part in the current programs and projects of EPAS, particularly those, which aim against corruption in sport, manipulation of the sports competition, violence during the sport events, other negative events in the sport.

Annual membership dues of Ukraine will make 20,000 euro. This sum is already embedded in the budget for 2019.

The EPAS was adopted by CM/Res Resolution (2010) of the 11th Committee of the Minister of Council of Europe on October 13, 2010, in Strasbourg with the amendments to CM/Res Resolution (2015) of the 4th Committee of the Minister of Council of Europe on April 15, 2015, in Strasbourg. 38 countries-members of the Council of Europe have joined the EPAS.

The documents will come into force in Ukraine as the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe gets the message on the accession.

Earlier the members of the Ukrainian parliament honored the act of valor of the 'cyborgs', the collective figurative noun for Ukrainian defenders of Donetsk airport.

On January 15, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada reported that it will consider the draft law #5670-d “On provision of the functioning of Ukrainian language as the state” in the second reading in February.
