The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has recognized the occupation of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine by Russia as the correspondent of 112 Ukraine reported.
In the adopted amendment, the formulation ‘uncontrolled by government territories’ was replaced by ‘the territories temporarily occupied by the Russian occupation administration’ as MP Oleksy Honcharenko reported to 112 Ukraine.
‘Really, recently PACE supported the amendment from the Ukrainian delegation to change the words in the description of the situation at the uncontrolled and occupied territory of Donbas. ‘Uncontrolled by government territories’ was replaced by ‘the territories temporarily occupied by the Russian occupation administration’. It is an extremely important decision for Ukraine. It is extremely important in the perception of the European in the perspective of our appeal of Russia’s actions at the ECHR that is the part of the Council of Europe. It gives one more tool to the Ukrainian diplomatic front to defend Ukraine’s interests’, Honcharenko claimed.
The spring PACE session will take place on April 23-27. It is expected that the Donbas Conflict, Russia's election in occupied Crimea, hybrid war and fake news will be discussed.
On April 23, the PACE Bureau refused to hold the urgent debates on the request of the UK, Ukraine and other countries on the poisoning of ex-GRU officer Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury and illegal election in annexed Crimea.
