Drivers of EU license plates cars continue protesting in Kyiv's downtown, near the building of Ukraine’s Parliament. The rally caused traffic jams.
As 112 Ukraine correspondent reports, some of the protesters spent a night near the Verkhovna Rada; yet, the majority intended to come back in the morning to continue protesting, with the demand to lower the excise of cars customs clearance.
Another rally of owners of cars with EU license plates began on November 7.
The Verkhovna Rada currently has this issue on the agenda.
The Committee on Tax and Customs Policy of Ukraine’s Parliament supported and recommended the Verkhovna Rada to consider two draft laws on taxes on importing a car with a foreign registration.
The draft law No.8487 was meant to solve the problem of the vehicles with European car plates which were not custom-cleared. It provides 50 Euros of excise tax basic rates for automobiles with petroleum engines up to 3,000 cubic centimeters, and 100 Euros-rate for the cars with engine volume over 3,000 cubic centimeters; 75 Euros for the cars with diesel engine up to 3,500 cubic centimeters, and 150 Euros for those over 3,500 cubic centimeters.
At that, the excise tax shall be equal to the basic rate multiplied by the coefficient of the engine and the coefficient of the age.
The new rates specified in the draft law caused wide outrage among the drivers.
