Over 600 pyrotechnicians of the Emergency Service hold works on mine clearance of the territory of Ukraine from explosive items as the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported.
“100 pyrotechnic squads of the Emergency Service numbering over 600 members of personnel hold works on mine clearance of land from the explosive items in Ukraine; over 100 persons daily perform tasks on clearance of the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” the message said.
Since the beginning (from July 6, 2014) of the involvement of the pyrotechnicians to the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, 220,000 explosive items were found, collected and destroyed; over 32,000 hectares of the territory were checked, as well as 101 hectares of water areas. Generally, during the past year, the pyrotechnic squads of the Emergency Service collected and destroyed over 70,000 explosive items, including 2,100 aircraft bombs.
It is noted that on April 4, the world marked the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action founded by the UN GA to increase awareness of the population about the danger of mines and explosive items left after wars.
Earlier, Vice Prime Minister - Minister for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Oleksiy Reznikov believes that mine clearance in Donbas may take 25 to 30 years, because the density of explosives on the territory of Ukraine is greater than anywhere else in the world.
