469 Ukrainian paratroopers have been killed since the beginning of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) in Donbas. This was stated by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in his speech on the occasion of the Day of Paratroopers broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.
"2557 paratroopers received state awards for the courage and heroism shown in the battles with Russian occupants. 12 of them were awarded by the star of the Hero of Ukraine. 469 of the paratroopers did not return from combat missions, died in fierce battles with the Russian invaders, and I ask you to honor their memory with a minute of silence," Poroshenko said.
As it was reported earlier Ukraine marks the Day of the Paratroopers today, on November 21 for the first time. Earlier, this holiday in the country was marked on August 2, like in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other CIS countries. In addition, in the framework of the reform, the Highly Mobile Airborne Forces were renamed to the Airborne Assault Forces.
