Since the beginning of the year, more than 20 films of Ukrainian production were made, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said in a government assembly on the results of work in January-September 2017.
“So far we have over twenty films of Ukrainian production, and it’s only the beginning,” he said.
According to him, the government will increase the support of the film industry, as it’s not only a part of the culture but a contribution to the nation’s economy as well.
He also noted that $18.9 million was allocated to the film industry in 2017, with the same sum put into the state budget for 2018. But Groysman says this amount may be increased.
As we reported earlier, first Ukrainian animated film Mavka. The Forest Song is under production at the moment. The approximate release time is the end of 2019.
This summer, Ukrainian-Slovak film Border was awarded for best direction at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
