As of the end of July this year, more than 10,000 Ukrainians are under investigation and kept in the prisons in different countries all over the world, as Andriy Zayats, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, said at the briefing, 112 Ukraine reports.
“As of June 30, 2018 more than 10 000 Ukrainians are detained, arrested, convicted and serve sentence in different states in the world. More than 6 500 of them are sentenced to imprisonment. The Consular Service of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry in accordance with the consular regulations adopted by the President’s decree, in addition to the tasks we already have, is working on each case,” he stated.
He noted that the priority of the consul’s world is the Ukrainians, convicted for politically motivated affairs and sentenced to death or life imprisonment.
Earlier, the Foreign Ministry reported that 2,300 Ukrainians were detained and convicted in Russia over the past three years.
