The OSCE representative on issues media freedom Harlem Désir in the third anniversary of the murder of journalist Pavlo Sheremet urged Ukrainian authorities to conclude the crime investigation and ensure that the guilty were punished. This is stated in the message of the organization.
"Three years later the murder of Pavlo Sheremet is still unsolved and continue to influence on the freedom of speech, freedom of mass media and the security of journalists. Ukrainian authorities have to ensure that his murder and also other attacks and murders of journalists were prosecuted by law and the guilty and those who ordered these crimes stood trial," Désir stated.
He believes that impunity for such crimes generate further violence.
As we reported, Ukrainian journalist Pavlo Sheremet was killed in Kyiv in the morning of July 20, 2016. The car he was driving exploded in the city’s downtown.
As of July 2018 more than 20 expert studies were held in the investigation. On the result of this work, the prosecutors work out for enquiry lines of the Sheremet's murder: professional activity, personal grudges, destabilization of the situation in the country and mistaken attack as the exploded car with Sheremet was owned by editor of Ukrayinska Pravda Olena Prytula.
The National Police of Ukraine identified Sheremet’s murderer and continued working on identification of the individual involved in the crime.
