OSCE calls for journalist Aseev’s release from militant captivity

Désir believes that media representatives should be free to express their views

Harlem Désir, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, called for releasing journalist Stanislav Aseev, who is held in captivity by Donbas militants, according to the statement published on the OSCE website.

“I call on all those responsible to immediately release Stanislav Aseev,” Désir said. “Journalists and other media actors must be free to express their views and carry out their work unhindered.”

Stanyslav Aseev is 27 years old. When the “DNR” militants occupied Donetsk, he did not leave the city, and was publishing his articles in the Ukrainian media under pseudonym Vasin. In June the contact with the journalist was lost. Human right protection organization Human Rights Watch on July 14 received information that Aseev was captured by “DNR” terrorists. Russia confirmed that he is in DNR militants captivity
