The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) started an investigation of the chemical attack in Douma in Syria. This was stated in the official statement of Ahmet Üzümcü, the Director-General of the OPCW.
Üzümcü expressed disquietude about the statements on a possible chemical attack and noted that the fact of the chemical weapon usage is to be determined.
“The fact-finding mission is gathering the information from all possible sources to determine whether the chemical weapon was used,” Üzümcü stated.
It was reported that the OPCW situation centre has conducted a preliminary analysis of the statements on the usage of chemical weapons right after such statements started occurring. The fact-finding mission is expected to report on the results of its investigation to the stated which have signed the Chemical Weapon Convention.
Around 70 casualties were reported after the chemical attack in Douma in Syria on April 8. Syria’s Government called these accusations of a chemical attack faked.
It should be noted that Douma I the last city which is kept by the Syria opposition in East Ghouta. It is surrounded by the Syrian troops, which are supported by Russian forces.
