In Odesa, locals came for the protests near Chornomorsky city council against the increase of the prices for housing and utility services, as 112 Ukraine TV channel correspondent reported.

According to lawmaker of Chornomorsky city council Yuriy Buzko, the city council has already filed the submission to the Verkhovna Rada and the Cabinet of Ministers toward the inadmissibility of the increase of prices for housing and utility services during the coronavirus pandemic. That is why Chornomorsky city council offers to freeze the growth of tariffs and return subsidies to people.

“First, it is necessary to return subsidies to people that were active until May 15, possibly, 2018. Because of such punishing tariffs, people unable to survive. They should pay more for housing and utility services than their pension or wage. It's not a pretty picture. That is why the lawmakers from the Opposition Party – For Life of Chornomorsky city council stand near the building of Odesa regional state administration and appeal to the leadership of Odesa region with the demand to make them hear the demand,” Buzko noted.

The protests against the increase of tariffs for housing and utility services continue all over Ukraine for a week.

On January 15, the protesters in Zhytomyr stormed the building of the regional council. When the locals entered the council, they were taken to the session hall of the city council for further discussion of the situation. Over 300 people participated in the protest.

On January 18, the price of the gas for the population in Ukraine was reduced to 6.99 hryvnias (0.25 USD) per 1 cubic meter. Such price will be acting until the end of the heating season or until the end of the quarantine. Gas suppliers won't be able to increase the price higher than UAH 6.99 per cubic meter.
