The absence of representative of Ukraine in the humanitarian subgroup of the contact group Valeria Lutkovska at the session in Minsk did not allow the sides to discuss the prisoner swap and opening of new checkpoints between Ukraine and so-called Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) as Russian mass media reported citing LPR representative Olha Kobtseva.
“Kyiv today, in fact, sabotaged the session of the working group on the humanitarian issues as the authorized representative in the group Valeria Lutkovska did not come to Minsk and has urgently handed over her authorities to the expert representing Ukrainian side,” she said.
Kobtseva noted that the meeting was formal; the sides exchanged information on agenda ‘but expected constructive in the work of the humanitarian subgroup, sadly, did not take place’. “The full responsibility for the sabotage of the fully negotiation process today in the format of the group completely lies on Ukrainian side,” she added.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the work on the formation of other lists for the prisoner swap takes place.
As we reported earlier, on December 29, Ukraine and representatives of the militant-held Donbas exchanged prisoners; these are political prisoners, POWs, and civilians, some of which were not even convicted. The venue was the Mayorske checkpoint in the Donetsk region.
Ukraine passed 127 people to the non-controlled territory, and the Russian mercenaries passed 76 people to Ukraine; 12 of these were military servicemen. Another 14 people refused to be exchanged.
