US President Barack Obama signed the US budget for 2017 for the needs of national defense, where defense assistance to Ukraine was increased to $ 350 million. It was reported by the Ukrainian Embassy to the United States.
All defense expenditures are set at $ 611 billion. According to the law, salary for the military increased by 2.1%.
Estimates of the defense aid to Ukraine in 2017 fiscal year increased compared to the US $ 300 million, provided in the same document for 2016.
The document envisages to provide funds for the defense aid to Ukraine, including lethal defensive weapons. The list of types of assistance extended to include funds and technical support for the development of an integrated system for monitoring the state border of Ukraine, as well as assistance in preparing staff officers and military command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The lower chamber of the US Congress approved a defense budget, providing $ 350 million military assistance to Ukraine. The corresponding document was published on the website of the Congress on December 3.
It should be noted that the document also suggests the restriction of military cooperation between the US and Russia. With a few exceptions, the funds from the US defense budget will not be allowed to finance any bilateral military projects, as long as Russia does not "stop the occupation of Ukrainian territory and aggressive actions that threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and NATO members."
