Number of Ukrainians visiting Crimea decrease

Fewer Ukrainian citizens cross the administrative border both on foot and on transport

Ukrainian border guards record a gradual decrease in the passenger-traffic flow across the administrative border with the Crimea. This was reported in the press service of the State Border Guard Service.

As for on December 5, the number of citizens crossed the "border" with the peninsula at Chongar checkpoint was the lowest this year. In particular, 1.4 thousand citizens have gone in both directions.

In just 11 months, the administrative border in both directions was crossed by 162 thousand citizens (7%) less than in 2016.

The transport traffic has also significantly reduced. This year the servicemen in Chongar, Chaplinka and Kalanchak control points recorded cars on route to Crimea decreased by 101 572 less (20%) compared to last year's figures, "the State Border Guard Service stated.

As it was reported earlier since June 11, when the EU-Ukraine visa-free regime took effect, over 341,000 Ukrainians visited EU countries without visas. Andriy Demchenko, the head of press service of Ukraine’s State Border Guard said that at a roundtable meeting in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The visa-free regime between the EU and Ukraine took effect on June 11, 2017; the European Parliament approved the respective decision on April 6. 52,000 Ukrainians crossed the EU border on the first day of the visa-free regime.
