It was decided during the Normandy Summit that the next disengagement of forces in Donbas will take place at three safe areas, which would be agreed at Minsk talks as 112 Ukraine reported citing Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“There was Head of the General Staff, Mr. Khomchak; I told him: please, prepare three simple areas,…which are not dangerous. In other words, they (Russia, - 112.international) are present; they will be agreed in Minsk. That’s all. What is the term? We spelled out that we can do it until the end of March that is why I want some simple areas. The Trilateral Contact Group will discuss the particular areas,” Zelensky stated.
The issue was about three points, which has the important humanitarian meaning for the citizens of Ukraine. According to Zelensky, there is no issue about such areas as Shchastya or Debaltseve, neither in strategic nor in the political sense.
Besides, Zelensky supposed that if we consider 409 km of contact line then the disengagement will take about 20 years. The president insists on the rapid solution of the conflict.
As we reported, Putin and Zelensky met in Paris as part of the Normandy Quartet meeting. The peace negotiations, known as the Normandy format, started back in 2014. The last Normandy Four meeting took place in October 2016, the roadmap on establishing peace in Ukraine was elaborated, however, the parties failed to fulfill it.
Later Putin stated he was pleased with bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Leaders of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin have so far agreed to hold another round of prisoners exchange during the bilateral talk.
As we reported the next Normandy Format Summit will take place in four months.
