During yesterday’s video-conference of the advisers of the Normandy Format leaders (Ukraine, Russia, France, Germany) the issue was raised of the attempt of the prisoner swap between occupied Donbas occupied by Russia and Chairman of Political Council of Opposition Platform-For Life party Viktor Medvedchuk, as ND reported citing adviser of the Ukrainian delegation in the Trilateral Contact Group Oleksiy Arestovych.
Commenting on the results of the talks of the Normandy advisers, he said that ‘there is not much to boast of except three things’.
“Firstly, we keep this (Normandy) process because it was almost frozen until the new year. Secondly, France and Germany support the majority of our key offers. Thirdly, today the humanitarian issue rose about people whom quasi- puppet structures tried to return to Medvedchuk,” Arestovych said.
Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak who participated in the meeting of the Normandy advisers stated that he would do everything to return these citizens within the Trilateral Contact Group.
On January 16, the representatives of occupied Donbas stated about the intention to unilaterally release some citizens of Ukraine kept in prisons. It was mentioned that Ukrainian opposition politician Viktor Medvedchuk should be a mediator in this process.
Medvedchuk appealed in the letter to Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov with a request to assist in the pass from occupied Donbas of four Ukrainians through the Mayorsk checkpoint. Meanwhile, Head of the Ukrainian delegation in Trilateral Contact Group Leonid Kuchma stated that prisoners had to be passed to Medvedchuk by plane from Russia to Belarus; however, it did not take place.
