The presiding judge in the MH17 case Hendrik Steenhuis informed that no one of the defendants appeared in court. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine.
It is known that the suspects in the case are Russians Sergey Dubinsky, Igor Girkin and Oleg Pulatov, as well as a citizen of Ukraine Leonid Kharchenko. As noted, the meeting will be attended only by lawyers of Lieutenant Colonel of the Airborne Forces Oleg Pulatov.
Judge Hendrik Steenhaus also announced that if the accused did not arrive in court, then the process would be held in absentia.
In connection with the start of MH17 case criminal proceedings on March 9, Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne called on the Russian Federation to cooperate with the investigation. This was reported by the press service of the Canadian Foreign Ministry.
"We continue to call on all states, including Russia, to cooperate fully with the Joint Investigation Team’s [JIT’s] ongoing criminal investigation, consistent with the call for accountability and cooperation unanimously adopted in UN Security Council Resolution 2166," Champagne said.
He welcomed the start of a criminal trial of four suspects accused of shooting down Malaysia Airlines MH17 flight on July 17, 2014.
Champagne is confident in the independence and professionalism of the international investigation and the legal system of the Netherlands.
