A new variant of the Delta strain was found in eight regions of Ukraine. Compared with the original strain, it is 10-15% more contagious, according to the Chief Sanitary Doctor in Odesa region Vitaliy Honcharov.

He noted that a new version of the Delta was discovered in Odesa region. The doctor noted that in October, due to the spread of a mutated strain of coronavirus in the region, more than 40,000 people fell ill, 780 patients died. He also clarified that so far little is known about the properties of the new version of Delta.

"Scientists at the UCL Genetics Institute reported that it is 10-15 percent more contagious than the original version," Vitaliy Honcharov said.

In addition to Odessa region, a new strain was found in Lviv, Ternopil, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk; Volyn; Zakarpattia and Kherson regions.

Scientists at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics conducted research and identified 11 different variants of the Delta strain in Ukraine. The study suggests that Ukraine is completely covered by this variant of the virus.
