The new Supreme Court decided to begin the work on December 15. The proper decision was made at the plenary meeting. 83 judges supported the decision and 27 stood against it as Ukrainian News reported.
The plenum adopted the regulation of its work before this. According to it, the date of the beginning of the work of the new Supreme Court is December 15, 2017. The mentioned date was defined due to the fact that Ukraine celebrates 100 years since the foundation of the Supreme Court of the Ukrainian People's Republic.
The number of the judges stood against this date and claimed that there is a necessity to postpone the beginning of the work of the court until January 15, 2018 but they were not supported by the majority.
The old Supreme Court, Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine, Supreme Economic Court of Ukraine and High Specialized Court of Ukraine for Civil and Criminal Cases will stop its work from the beginning of the work of the new Supreme Court.
113 judges of the new Supreme Court took the oath on November 11. They were appointed by President Petro Poroshenko that signed the proper decree.
