New state lawyer of Yanukovych refuses to participate in court debates

Viktor Ovsiannikov was appointed as a new state advocate for the former president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in the state treason case as 112 Ukraine reported.

During the talks with the journalist, he said that followed the proceeding through the internet and TV and noted the necessity to provide him more time for familiarizing with the case.

"Court debates are a very important stage during which the parties should express their opinion on the case. I think I need more time to familiarize myself with the case if I work with it," he said.

At the beginning of the court session, when Prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko started to deliver his speech, Ovsiannikov and paid lawyer of Yanukovych Oleksandr Baidyk interrupted him. They tried to silence the prosecutor and left the court hall after the unsuccessful attempts.

The break in the court is announced until 14:00.

The previous lawyers of Yanukovych refused to participate in the debates the day before. It was ordered to provide the ex-president with a free advocate.

Yanukovych is charged with state treason, assistance in deliberate actions against Ukraine’s state border, sovereignty and territorial integrity and assistance in leading the aggressive war against Ukraine.
