The Obolon District Court of Kyiv ordered the Center of Free Legal Aid to appoint a new lawyer to a former president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych within the state treason case as 112.ua reported.
The reason for such decision is the refusal of the current defense of Yanukovych to participate in the court debates; the advocates did not come to the session after the break announced by the court. Earlier they appealed for the recusal of the panel of the judges; however, it did not take place.
Presiding judge Vladyslav Deviatko emphasized one more time that the appeal on the violation during the court session does not correspond with the reality, noting that 52 witnesses (15 witnesses of the defense) were present at the court; more than 60 sessions were held.
"Taking into account that the defense of accused Yanukovych withdrew from the participation in the court debates, arbitrarily left the court session before its end and it makes impossible the further consideration of the case, the panel of the judges thinks that it is necessary to provide the right of the accused of the defense during the court debates. Due to this, the lawyer will be appointed from the Regional Center of Free Legal Aid in Kyiv," the message said.
It is ordered to appoint the advocate promptly and oblige him to come to the court session tomorrow on August 1 at 10:00 am.
Yanukovych is charged with state treason, assistance in deliberate actions against Ukraine’s state border, sovereignty and territorial integrity and assistance in leading the aggressive war against Ukraine.
