The Verkhovna Rada voted for the appointment of Ruslan Stefanchuk to the position of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. 261 MPs voted for the decision.
So, Stefanchuk replaced Dmytro Razumkov, who had previously resigned. It is worth mentioning here that before this appointment Stefanchuk was the First Vice Speaker.

Who is Ruslan Stefanchuk?
Ruslan Stefanchuk is Doctor of Law, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, incumbent MP.
He was born on October 29, 1975, in Ternopil. In 1997, he graduated from Khmelnytsky Institute of Regional Management and Law with a degree in law. In 1999, he graduated from the Podillya Technological University (now - Khmelnytsky National University) with a degree in Production Management.
Later he worked as an assistant at the academic department of Civil Law at the Khmelnytsky University of Management and Law, then entered the graduate school of the V.M.Koretsky Institute of state and law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
After graduating from graduate school in 2000 he worked at Khmelnytsky University of Management and Law as a senior lecturer, head of the department, associate professor, professor of Civil Law Department.
2005 - 2011 - Prorector for Research at Khmelnytsky University of Management and Law.
2011 -2013 - Head of the Department of National Legislation Development of the Legislation Institute of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
2013 -2014 - Head of the Department of Civil Law, and from 2014 to 2016 - Prorector for Research of the National Academy of Prosecutors of Ukraine.
Since 2016 - Prorector for Research of the Higher School of Advocacy of the Ukrainian National Bar Association.
He participated in the development of a number of laws in Ukraine. He has published more than 500 scientific and teaching and methodical works.
In 2019, he joined the election headquarters of Volodymyr Zelensky, with whom he met during his student years thanks to the KVN TV show.
In 2019 parliamentary elections, he was elected an MP from the Servant of the People party, and on August 29, 2019, he was elected First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 9th convocation. He held this position until his current appointment.
According to the declaration of 2020, Stefanchuk has:
- a plot of land in Bilohorodka, Kyiv region, in joint ownership with his wife (1,008 sq. m);
- apartment in Khmelnytsky city (93.4 sq. m);
The wife has an apartment in Kyiv (101.8 sq. m), which, is also used by the new speaker.

Stefanchuk's salary for last year is 22,613 dollars. Moreover:
- income from the lease of property - 2,276 dollars.
- lifetime payment for the title of a member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine - 1,634 dollars.
- Yaroslav the Wise Prize for outstanding merits in legislative, judicial, and law enforcement activities - 141 dollars.
Stefanchuk has 3,706 dollars on his accounts. In addition, new speaker declared cash: 49,700 dollars, 15,550 euros, 18,500 hryvnias (all in joint ownership with his wife).
