New rules in Orthodox Church of Ukraine: Burial services for Catholics

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine implements reforms and imposes new regulations in the churches, as RBK-Ukraine reported.

In particular, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine might allow setting benches in the churches, let women not cover their heads in the temple, and cancel the ban on burial service for Catholics.

Bishop of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine of Zaporizhia and Melitopol region Photios urged the priests to listen to the voice of the heart and act in compliance with the commandments of love.

“If a person is christened in a church of another submission and he or she died, we will conduct burial service for this person,” he stated.

The bishop noted that regarding the latter case, the priests need to specify why the Catholic appealed to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine for a burial service.

Earlier, Patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine Filaret said that the current church constitution provided by Constantinople does not satisfy him.
