During the speech at the 73rd UN General Assembly on the maintenance of peace, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has claimed the necessity to reform the UN to increase the effectiveness of the peacekeeping activities, as the President’s Administration reports.

“The new quality of the peacekeeping has to comply with the world’s expectations and hopes. The initiative of the UN Secretary-General on the enhancement of the interaction between all the participants involved in the peacekeeping activity is exactly what our Organization needs to provide more of the effectiveness and reliability of this important tool,” Poroshenko stated.

The President expressed hope that the Declaration adopted today by many states, including Ukraine, as an active contributor to the peacekeeping process, would enhance the mutual efforts.

“I would like to emphasize one of the items of our joint declaration: it’s very important that the reform would lead to the improvement of the UN capacity to complete the primary tasks,” he said.

Besides, Poroshenko has urged the UN to bring the peacekeeping mission to Donbas.
