The Verkhovna Rada at an extraordinary meeting on March 30 supported the appointment of Serhiy Marchenko as a new Minister of Finance of Ukraine. We will tell you what we know about him.
Serhiy Marchenko is a native of the town of Makariv in Kyiv region. He received education at the Academy of the State Tax Service in Public Finance Management. He is PhD in Economics.
Since 2002, he held various offices in the Ministry of Finance, State Tax Administration, Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers, and since 2011, he worked in the Coordination Center for the Implementation of Reforms under President Viktor Yanukovych (freelance).
Marchenko took part in the development of the Budget Code adopted in 2014.
He worked as an expert at the Bendukidze Free Market Center, was the academic director of the general program of the Kyiv School of Economics and the German Association for International Cooperation (GIZ) 2015-2016 “Leadership in public finance.”
From May 2016 to July 2018 he worked as Deputy Finance Minister, and the Finance Minister at that time was Oleksandr Danyliuk.
Since August 31, 2018 he was Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration under Ihor Rainin. In May 2019, Petro Poroshenko fired Rainin and his two deputies, including Marchenko.
In 2019, he ran for the Verkhovna Rada at number 7 on the list of the Ukrainian Strategy of Groysman party, which did not make it to the parliament.
Marchenko is married, has a son and a daughter.
According to the declaration, which Marchenko submitted on March 30 as a candidate for the position of Finance Minister, his family owns two apartments in Kyiv (84.6 and 40.3 m3), worth 34,000 dollars and 27,300 dollars, respectively.
The new head of the Ministry of Finance owns a car of the Audi A6 brand of 2017, worth 54,000 dollars.
In 2019, Marchenko declared 8,500 dollars of salary, 1,378 dollars of pensions, and his wife keeps 10 thousand dollars in cash.
