Security and defense sector reforms are at the basis of Ukraine's integration into the European Union, so Ukraine needs clear plans to move forward. This was stated by the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda during a briefing.
"We also need to pay special attention to EU cooperation with Ukraine and to reforms in the security and defense sector, which are the basis for Ukraine's integration into Europe, in the Euro-Atlantic community. We also need a clear vision of how Ukraine can contribute to the Euro-Atlantic community and move closer to the EU and NATO, "Nausėda said.
He stressed that Ukraine needs clear plans in order to move forward. In particular, he noted that the international community expects assurances that the consistent process of reforms in the country will continue.
In early June, G7 ambassadors said they welcomed the draft reform of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU). The ambassadors also called on the lawmakers of the Verkhovna Rada to support this bill.
G7 Ambassadors welcome the draft law on @ServiceSsu that was presented on 3 June. It provides a solid basis for real reform, phasing out pre-trial investigatory powers, downsizing, and demilitarization. We commend the leadership of @Zelenskyy in delivering this reform. 1/2— G7AmbReformUA (@G7AmbReformUA) June 7, 2021
