The National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine to carry out an unplanned check of TV companies broadcasting under 112 Ukraine logo. Such decision was taken by the regulator at today’s meeting.
112 Ukraine TV channel has recently appealed against regulator’s decision from May 12, by which the latter has re-issued the licenses for 6 television companies broadcasting with 112 Ukraine logo; speaking about change of ownership, leadership or editorial boards, regulator put forward condition that each of the companies has to provide the list of associated individuals, information about ultimate beneficiary and documents supporting his rights.
The lawyers of 112 Ukraine believe that the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council should have either satisfied the re-issuing of the license or rejected the application, but not impose additional requirements. The red-tape on re-issue of licenses for 112 Ukraine lasts 2 years already.
TV Channel has repeatedly voiced concern over pressure from National TV and Radio Broadcasting Council in the interests of certain political and financial groups.
112 Ukraine was supported by Ukrainian and international politicians and experts, while steps of National TV Council were called an attack on freedom of expression in Ukraine.
