Singer Anna Korsun (Maruv) would not present Ukraine at the song contest “Eurovision 2019”

The rules of the national selection for Eurovision do not contain demands on the absence of the tours in the Russian Federation, as STB Channel stated commenting on the scandal at Eurovision.

“The rules do not contain any point of the civic engagement of the participant of the selection, his tours in the Russian Federation, professional or family ties. The necessity of such point has not arisen for four years,” the message said.

The current discussions clearly show that we have a serious request for conditions which artist can or cannot present Ukraine at the international contest. “Three questions immediately appear: 1) what procedure of the check of the artists and their families for the civic engagement, schedule of the tours, private concerts, cooperation with the Russian musicians should be; 2) whether it corresponds the democratic approaches acceptable for the civilized society; 3) who will do it as the aim of the TV channel is the production and broadcasting and other services should do it,” the STB said.

Only the National Television Company of Ukraine would decide who to present Ukraine during the Eurovision.

According to the national selection, Freedom Jazz with song “Cupidon” ranked the second and Kazka with the song “Apart” has got the third place.

Earlier we reported that singer Anna Korsun (Maruv) would not present Ukraine at the song contest “Eurovision 2019”. Maruv said that she was forced to refuse from the participation in the contest from Ukraine due to her tour in Russia.

“I am ready to refuse from performances in Russia. I have answered all the questions the jury had on air. I have not visited Crimea since 2014. I have not violated any law of Ukraine. Besides, I am ready to assume all the costs related to participation in the international contest,” she stated.

Maruv won at the Ukrainian national selection for Eurovision and should perform with Siren Song in the first semi-final of the Eurovision, which will take place on May 14. Her performance was planned for the second half of the show.
