In the frameworks of the memorandum with the IMF, signed by the Ukrainian government, the next gas price increase is scheduled already: up to $350 beginning from May 1, 2019, and up to $439 in January 1, 2020. Against the billion household debts for housing and public utility services, the situation with payments may become even more complicated, according to the experts.
“Current situation on household debts for housing and public utility services and energy products is unsatisfactory. For now, the debt is unprecedented for all the time of the country’s independence – $2.4 billion. Plus, it grows in high tempo – 25 million dollars since the beginning of the year. This is the evidence of the non-adequate tariffs. Something should be done with the debts of course, some mechanism of wiping out or reorganization should be found, because they are huge,” Dmytro Marunych, energy expert states.
Viktor Medvedchuk together with “Opposition platform – For life” Party filed the draft law “On debt relief from the population for the supply of the natural gas, district heating and hot water supply, electricity supply…”.
“To protect the citizens of Ukraine and not allowed the collapse of the housing and communal services system, the “Opposition platform – For life” Party filed the draft law “On debt relief from the population for the supply of the natural gas, district heating and hot water supply, electricity supply…”. I am sure that the adoption of this law is highly important for Ukraine and its citizens, who became the hostages of the tariff genocide held by the government and its populist policy, which led to the poverty of the population. It is more important than enshrinement of the NATO course into the Constitution or the legislative discrimination of the Russian-speaking population,” Medvedchuk noted.
Besides, he thinks that it is necessary to ruin the monopolistic state of Naftogaz-Ukraine and return to the practice of the direct purchase of the gas from Russian Gazprom by getting rid of the intermediaries, “who just earn the excessive profits”. “Moreover, these intermediaries from the government creates the conditions for the corruption schemes and their cynical earnings on the direct looting of the Ukrainians by telling fairytales about “Russian gas needle” and how they got off from it,” Medvedchuk added.
As we reported earlier, Viktor Medvedchuk, the politician and the head of 'Ukrainsky Vybir' (Ukrainian Choice) political party faces prosecution in Ukraine. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General's Office opened the case against him in state treason and encroachment on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. The basis for the criminal proceeding is an application of the Ukrainian MP from the People’s Front political party. The criminal case opened against the politician for his proposals on settlement of the military conflict in Donbas by granting the region with autonomy and capturing that in the Constitution of Ukraine. Medvedchuk voiced the proposals at the All-Ukrainian Congress of the party on January 29.
Members of the European Parliament condemned the criminal proceeding against Viktor Medvedchuk, the representative of the "Opposition Platform - For Life" political party.
