NABU publishes details about incomes of SBU Deputy Head

According to the bureau, Demchyna provided the registration of the assets in the sum of $134,500 for family members without preliminary legal incomes

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) confirmed that it prepared the note of suspicion in the illicit enrichment to SBU Deputy Head Pavlo Demchyna as the NABU reported.

The bureau added that it is forced to make public the details of the case as it was done by the official of Ukraine's Security Service.

"The NABU is forced to resort to such actions as the information, which is the secret of pretrial investigation was disclosed by reasons unknown for NABU and it was received by SBU official the legality of actions of official is checked by the detectives during the mentioned pretrial investigation. Under strained circumstances, it took place right after the sending of the proper procedural documents for the negotiation to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office," the message said.

The Bureau specified that Demchyna bought the assets in joint ownership and had the expenses in the sum of at least $229,000. The issue is also about new SUV Land Rover Range Rover Sport of 2015, Mercedes-Benz V250 of 2016, land plots in the suburbs of Kyiv with the area 0,1011 hectares and 0,1072 hectares, flat near the mentioned land plots. At the same time, the official income of the First Deputy Head of the SBU and members of his family was $93,000, including the sale of earlier bought car Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD at the period April 25, 2015 – December 31, 2016.

The mentioned facts were published by the NABU in the suspicion and it was filed for the negotiation with the SAPO on September 7.

"Let's note, that the actions alleged against Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine and Deputy SBU Head as well as the evidence gathered in the criminal proceedings are identical," the NABU said.

The bureau also noted that it expects the continuation of the adoption of the procedural decisions by SAPO.

As we reported National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) made a report of suspected illicit enrichment for Pavlo Demchyna, First Deputy Chairman of SBU, who heads the anti-corruption department.

Reportedly, NABU began prosecution of First Deputy Head of SBU Demchyna on March 10, 2017. Data from the journalist investigation was the reason to open the proceeding.

The journalists of Slidstvo.Info stated that Demchyna’s common-law wife, with whom he has three children, owns luxury cars and lives in a luxury country retreat. The 2015 declaration says that he does not have his own apartment, car, savings and officially lives in SBU departmental dorm.  

As we reported Solomensky District Court obliged the National Anti-Corruption Bureau to open the proceeding against Justice Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko under suspicion of the declaration of false data. Later NABU belied this information

Also, Ukraine’s Anti-Corruption Bureau informed Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan of suspected illicit enrichment.
