An assault on MP Oleh Voloshyn took place next to the building of the Ukrainian Parliament in Kyiv on Tuesday. The lawmaker from Opposition Platform - For Life party was punched several times, and suffered a chemical burn to his eye.
Commenting on the incident, Voloshyn blamed representatives of the European Solidarity party for this attack.
"I passed across the street and spoke with my colleague Yevhen Shevchenko from Servant of the People party. We discussed the bill on localization, which was on the agenda today, and those who do their best trying to limit our sovereignty stand against it. When I showed my ID and was a half-step away from the entrance to the Verkhovna Rada. At that time, I was attacked from behind. First, it was a blow on the shoulder, and then a blow a little to the left of my left eye, I even have a mark of a blow there. Brilliant gree got into my eye and the eye got burned. In these circumstances I did not understand who was a policeman and who was the attacker, all were wearing black. I wanted to catch up with one guy and fight back. Some say that I attacked someone, it's very funny when they burned my eyes, beat me from behind, and then I still have to stand, sort it out, watch, call the police. I believe that any normal man would have acted the same way as me,” the MP said. "It was organized by people, at least one of them, who waved his hands and shouted the most, is a member of the Poroshenko’s European Solidarity. One of the attackers has been repeatedly seen guarding Petro Poroshenko's rallies. I believe that the European Solidarity party bears full responsibility for this attack, which after this cannot be called European."
Voloshyn said his vision will restore soon; he also said he would return to the Parliament's session.
“I think I’ll even have time to return to the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada because I want our supporters to know that we cannot be intimidated by any means. If someone does not like our point of view, everyone has the right to express it, shout, take the word and say it, but we will not let anyone attack us and silence us by force. We are not the current government, which forgave all the radical nationalists when Zelensky was discussing with people who should be imprisoned for their violent actions. They are not defenders of Ukraine, but terrorists, because using violence to defend your political goals, no matter what they are, even if they sound the most beautiful way. In any case, you start to intimidate, attack, beat, splash brilliant green on other people. They didn’t just splash me with it. Do you know how it is done? They pour brilliant green into the balloon and it was smashed on my face. They did not just spray it from a water gun from a distance, it was a blow to the face. I hit in response to the blow. It is very important to record it because some of Poroshenko's associates are already screaming that I attacked a citizen of Ukraine,” the MP emphasized.
