Prominent French movie director Jean-Luc Godard refused to visit Russian museum Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, as AFP reported referring to the statement of Society of French Film Directors.

“Thank you for the invitation, but considering the conditions of detention of the movie director Oleg Sentsov, I don’t think it is possible to visit Hermitage for now, regardless of the friendship with the Russian nation,” he noted.

As it was reported earlier, Sentsov became an honorary citizen of Paris.

As is known, Sentsov was judged and sentenced to 20-years-long imprisonment in Russia, as the judges found him guilty of preparing a terrorist act in annexed Crimea. Sentsov’s hunger strike began in May 2018, as he demanded that Russia release all Ukrainian political prisoners.  Oleg Sentsov stopped the hunger strike on the 144th day. The decision to end the hunger strike was made after Russian doctors and penitentiary facility workers issued an ultimatum to Sentsov, suggesting that he either voluntarily stop the hunger strike or agree to be force-fed

Reportedly, Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov was awarded Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. The decision was announced by the European Parliament on October 25. It is supposed that the official ceremony is to be held in Strasbourg on December 12.
