At exactly noon, radio stations and TV channels interrupted the broadcast for a nationwide minute of silence.
Eighty years ago, a tragedy occurred in Kyiv that became one of the worst in the twentieth century. Decades later, it remains an incurable wound in the hearts of thousands of people. Today, September 29, is the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the mass shootings in Babyn Yar.
In total, according to the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center, 34,000 Jews were killed in the ravine in two days, the youngest of whom was 3 days old and the oldest - 103 years old.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky honored the memory of the victims of Babyn Yar. The head of state noted that the tragedy of Babyn Yar should never be repeated in Ukraine or in the world.
