Head of the Ukrainian delegation at the Trilateral Contact Group Leonid Kravchuk stated that Minsk cannot be a venue for negotiations on Donbas anymore due to the stop of air traffic with Belarus as Ukraine 24 reported.
He noted that the Contact Group will look for a new venue for talks.
“We will not have flights to Belarus; we will not be able to get there. Thus, considering the situation, dictatorial behaviors showed by self-proclaimed President of Belarus Lukashenko, it is obvious that we cannot even consider the issue of discussion spot – Minsk venue. We will definitely look for a new place,” he stated.
According to Kravchuk, Ukraine will appeal to all sides of the talks with the request for the new place, first of all to the OSCE.
On May 23, the founder of the largest opposition telegram channel of Belarus NEXTA, journalist Roman Protasevich, was detained in Minsk. The plane with Roman Protasevich on board flew from Athens to Vilnius. Suddenly, the plane gave a distress signal, changed course, and made an emergency landing at the Minsk National Airport. The emergency landing was caused by a mining signal.
Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen threatened with sanctions the Belarusian officials responsible for the incident with the plane.
Journalist Rikard Jozwiak reported that the European Union plans to adopt the fourth package of sanctions against Belarus in June.
The U.S. and a number of the EU countries demand to stop the flights over Belarus, including the flights to the country itself.
