In a car explosion in downtown Kyiv, Timur Makhauri was killed, according to Head of the communication department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Artem Shevchenko.
“A car explosion happened today, there were three people inside the car. It’s a man who died, a woman who was seriously wounded, and doctors are trying to save her life, and a child, nothing threatens his life,” Shevchenko said.
Criminal proceedings were started under Part 2 Article 115 of Criminal Code of Ukraine (murder, committed in a way that poses threat to society).
“According to the preliminary signs, an explosive device planted in the car detonated. The victim was a citizen of Georgia,” he said.
“It’s a person known in the criminal circles, his name is Timur Makhauri. He had connections with different circles in Chechnya. He had also been detained and prosecuted in Ukraine this year, but he made a deal with the investigation and was put on probation. If I am not mistaken, for illegal possession of weapons. In court, based on the agreement with the investigation, he pleaded guilty and received a 5 year sentence with 3 years of postponement. Then a certificate was seized from him, where it said he was a fighter for Sheikh Mansur battalion,” Shevchenko informed.
The woman’s wounds are serious – her leg was wounded in the explosion.
“We are hoping there will be no threat to her life… It was a rather powerful explosion device. The way of detonation and the placement of the explosive will be determined by an examination… The fact is that he died. The woman is alive, but seriously wounded; she lost a lot of blood. The child is alive. It’s obviously an intentional murder. It’s not an accidental crime”.
The car was a Toyota Camry with Georgian number plates. The Kyiv police are investigating the crime.
Journalists also asked Shevchenko to comment on the information that a man under this name was suspected of a series of murders in Turkey.
“All his contacts on our territory, as well as in other countries, all his contacts in Georgia, other countries, will certainly be analyzed during the investigation of this crime,” Shevchenko replied.
As it was reported earlier, a car exploded in downtown Kyiv, not far from Bessarabka market.
