State Border Guard Service considers mining of some parts of the Sea of Azov pointless, as Oleh Slobodyan, the Spokesperson of State Border Guard Service, told Ukrainian News.

“I agree with the experts who regard this pointless,” he said.

Slobodyan added that such scenario would influence the economic relations of our country with the others, would completely satisfy Russia’s needs and would stop the work of the seaports on Azov Sea coast in Ukraine.

Earlier, Sergiy Hayduk, the former commander of the Naval forces and the vice-admiral, suggested setting a mine barrier in the Sea of Azov to secure Ukraine against Russia’s possible attack.

Earlier, Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, during one of his speeches said that he did not exclude the fact that Russia is preparing an attack at Mariupol. Besides, as of July 15, Russian had detained 148 vessels in the Sea of Azov for inspection.

Due to this, Poroshenko entrusted the Defence Minister, the Head of the General Staff and Ukraine’s Navy command to take relevant measures to stop the Russian provocations concerning the blockage of the vessels entering to the Ukrainian ports in the Sea of Azov.
