Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatolii Matios says that out of 313,000 Ukrainian troops that participated in the Donbas conflict, 518 people committed suicide, as he wrote on Facebook.

“Only according to the data from the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations, out of almost 313,000 participants of the Donbas conflict, 518 people committed suicide. How many crimes they committed because of the PTSD, nobody takes into account,” he wrote.

Moreover, according to data provided by Matios, there have been 16 cases of suicide among servicemen of Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of this year.“Most of the suicides are very young guys, born in 1995-1998,” he wrote.

Matios also emphasized that in 2017, only 0,1% of all participants of the Donbas conflict went through psychological rehabilitation provided by the state.

“I feel like screaming about the fact that in February 2017, regional institutions of social protection stopped the measures on psychological rehabilitation of the conflict participants, and, consecutively, the state funding was decreased from $1,85 million to $811,000 (or by 56,1%),” Military Prosecutor said.

He also noted that although the financing has increased in the budget for 2018 to $40,3 million, it doesn’t imply that it will be used effectively.
