Ukrainian law enforcers detained brother of ex-president of Georgia, former Head of Odessa City Administration Mikheil Saakashvili, David Saakashvili, as former advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilya Kiva told 112.UA Channel.
“Mikheil Saakashvili’s borther was detained for violating the rules of stay in the country. The immigration service and the police detained him and preparing him for deportation,” he said.
As it was reported earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the decree stripping Saakasvhili off the Ukrainian citizenship. Anton Herashchenko, the Counselor to Interior Minister of Ukraine said that the government learned certain previously unknown facts from Georgia’s Prosecutor General’s Office; as of the time when Saakashvili was granted Ukrainian citizenship, Ukrainian authorities were unaware of that information.
Later on, the Prosecutor's General Office in Ukraine said Saakashvili would need a visa to come to Ukraine. Saakashvili, in his turn, said he would return to Ukraine on September 10.
