The crash of the Malaysian Boeing-777 (Flight MH17)

The Hague court on Monday, June 7, began hearings on the merits of the case of the Malaysian plane  MH17 downing over Donbas. This was reported on the court's website.

The live stream can be viewed here. The hearing will start at 11 a.m. Kyiv time.

More general topics will be covered on that first day. The investigation by the examining magistrate will be discussed, and remarks may be made about the inspection. The court will also deliver an introduction to the discussion of the case file over the following days.

The court opens the MH17 criminal trial proper and, through examining and discussing the content of the prosecution file, elucidate the key questions which it has already begun to address:

• Was flight MH17 shot down by a BUK missile?
• Was a BUK missile fired from an agricultural field near Pervomaiskyi?
• Did the accused play a role in this?

The personal circumstances of the accused will also be discussed insofar as relevant information is available in the prosecution file.

Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was shot down in the skies over Donbas on July 17, 2014. There were 298 people on board - 283 passengers and 15 crew members. They all died. This disaster, in terms of the number of deaths, became the largest in the history of civilian aviation since September 11, 2001. At that time, the area where the plane crashed was controlled by pro-Russian militants.
