Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel noted the fairness and competitiveness of the electoral process in Ukraine. The Chancellor said this during the phone call with the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, as the Administration of the President reports on its website.
The initiative was from the German party.
“The fairness and competitiveness of the electoral process in Ukraine were noted”, - the report said.
Angela Merkel congratulated Petro Poroshenko on reaching the second round of the presidential campaign.
According to the report, the parties exchanged views on the further steps, in particular in the framework of the Normandy format in order to intensify the peace process on the implementation of the Minsk agreements, release the Kremlin's hostages and implement the initiative to deploy a UN peacekeeping mission in the territory of the occupied Donbas.
Volodymyr Zelensky enters the second tour of the elections with 30,26% of votes, while Petro Poroshenko, the current President of Ukraine, occupies the second place with 15,98%
The Central Election Commission (CEC) must establish the election results by April 10. Then, the commission has to publish the results of the first round in the newspapers Holos Ukrayiny and Uryadovy Kuryer not later than April 13. And it is to announce holding the second round in case no candidate received over 50% of votes.
