Freedom of speech is very important because when people are not allowed to speak freely, think freely, as they want, then the nation would not progress. British MEP, member of the inter-parliamentary committee of Ukraine-EU association Nathan Gill stated it during “No freedom of speech” telethon of 112 Ukraine, ZIK, and NewsOne TV channels.

“The United Kingdom has rules, which should be followed by any media but very-very clear rules for the politicians from any side of the debates. We cannot just allow a politician from one of the parties to control the whole broadcasting. So, generally, I would say that freedom of media is very important, as when people are not allowed to speak freely, think for themselves freely, as they want, then how the nation will be able to progress, how are you going to debate on these issues?” he said.

Gill noted that people will create negative stuff and hatred inside themselves “and then we will have very bad regimes such as fascism and so on. People have the possibility to talk on air. If people do not like the things provided by some mass media, then do not watch it or read them,” the MEP said.

Earlier Gill stated that freedom of speech would disappear in Ukraine as soon as the authority starts to close independent mass media.
