MEP from the Liberal Democrats political party in Great Britain Caroline Voaden is sure that there are no reasons to close the independent mass media, even for national security.

"I do not see any reasons to close mass media. Even fro the point of view of national security. It can not be the defence for closing independent media. I hope that the times when the government must control everything that is talking on air passed long ago and it is not right in the 21st century," the MEP said.

Voaden also believes that independent media are very important for the stable society.

"If we want to have stable society, stable democracy and if you do not want threats, you mush have independent mass media because exactly the media themselves are the biggest guarantee from the external informational interference; because it creates a competitive information network in the country. And if people say something and the media does not like it, there are elections to solve problems. Go and choose other authorities who will bring other ideas to media, if somebody does not like it (the government - ed.). Not the media should be closed," Voaden added.
