Ukrainian authority will have to answer before the European Parliament if it does not stop putting pressure on the independent mass media as 112 Ukraine reported citing Viktor Medvedchuk, the Chairman of the Political Council of Opposition Platform – For Life.

“I assess the situation in the issue of respect for freedom as the critical one. Besides, it is getting even worse than it was during the previous regime of Poroshenko. All actions, which aim toward our channel, toward NewsOne – the adoption of the regulation on the deprivation of the licenses adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on October 4, 2018 (the appeal of the National Security and Defense Council, - 112.international), the politically motivated actions of the National Council on Radio Broadcasting against particular channels and mass media are evidence that the new authority, which, unfortunately, did nothing for people yet, try to withdraw the mechanisms, which may deliver the truth toward the authority and things happening in the country to the people. And therefore, such actions it is also the unwillingness to investigate the attack at your channel, when it was shelled from the grenade launcher; it is the politically motivated actions aiming at the unscheduled checks of NewsOne channel; all of this are the links of one chain also toward…the actions of the authority against the opposition, representatives of our political forces. It is not a secret that member of the political council of our party Taras R. Kozak is the owner of 112 Ukraine and NewsOne,” Medvedchuk said.

According to him, the attempt of the sweep of the information space takes place in the country to leave only those mass media, “which will please the authority, which will work in the name of authority”.

Viktor Medvedchuk also noted that the hearings on the freedom of speech in Ukraine will take place in the European Parliament.

“There is the position of the particular representatives of the EU. Moreover, I know the MP (Nathan Gill, the member of the committee of human rights of the European Parliament, - 112.international), I met him, when informed about the peace plan of Donbas Conflict settlement in Strasbourg; he was present and hosted our delegation. I know his position, including in accordance with the things happening to the mass media. The fact that he is a member of the committee of Ukraine-EU Association means that the situation will become the issue of the consideration at this committee soon to make the new authority to report and inform or it has already informed about what it is trying to do toward the mass media in Ukraine and why these means assumed today against your channel and NewsOne was never used before; today it is implemented through the Security Service, the Prosecutor’s Office, the National Council on Radio and TV,” Medvedchuk said.

The politician is sure such actions should be thwarted as they are the violation of the Constitution and the acting legislation.

“It is very good that the members of the International Editorial Board of your channel and representatives of the proper council of NewsOne respond, know about it and they are ready to speak critically toward the actions of the authority. I think that it would badly affect the attempts of the authority to deprive the broadcasters and representatives of mass media with the possibility to deliver unbiased information to our citizens,” Medvedchuk concluded.

As it was reported, the Court of Appeal postponed the case on deprivation 112 Ukraine TV channel of a right to broadcast to September 2019.

Later the Court of Appeal postponed the case on deprivation 112 Ukraine TV channel of a right to broadcast to September 2019.

The international editorial Council of 112 Ukraine TV channel, which includes the members of the European Parliament Nathan Gill (Great Britain), David Coburn (Great Britain), Arne Gericke (Germany), is extremely concerned about the current situation in Ukraine, when 112 Ukraine TV channel, country's leader in information broadcasting, may be deprived of broadcast license due to an upcoming illegal court decision.
